ToTheBand is built on a single promise — that every message a band receives is genuine, considered, and from a real fan. This page explains exactly how we keep that promise, and what it means for both sides.

For Fans

What We Ask Of You

Writing to a band through ToTheBand is a simple act of genuine communication. We don't ask much — just that you mean what you write.

There are no rules about length, style, or how personal you get.A three-sentence thank you is as valid as a five-paragraph letter. What matters is that it's real.

Before submitting a letter you will see two required confirmations and one optional choice:

✓I consent to my letter being read by [Band Name] — required. Your letter cannot be delivered without this confirmation. The band sees your display name, letter type, message content, and any city and country stored in your profile. Your email address is never shared.

✓I confirm I am 13 years of age or older — required. ToTheBand does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

◯I'd like to hear about relevant rock and metal events, releases, and news from trusted ToTheBand partners — optional. You can still send your letter without ticking this. Your email address is never shared with partners directly — all messages are sent by ToTheBand on their behalf. Maximum two messages per month. Withdraw at any time by emailing craig@totheband.com.

Your letter may also be seen by the band's official management team as part of normal band communications. This is covered under legitimate interest and does not require separate consent.

What you can write:

✓Personal stories — how the music affected your life, your memories, your difficult moments

✓Honest feedback — what a song or album actually did to you, good or complicated

✓Simple gratitude— "thank you for existing" is a complete and valid letter

✓Show memories — the gig that stayed with you, described honestly

✕Threats or harassment — any message that could cause distress, fear, or harm

✕Inappropriate contact — romantic or sexual content directed at band members

✕Unsolicited demands — requests for personal information, meetings, or responses

✕Commercial messages— promotion, spam, or anything that isn't genuine fan communication

Our promise to you

If your message meets the spirit of genuine fan communication, it will be delivered. We don't judge your writing ability, your spelling, or how articulate you are. We only ask that you mean it.

For Bands

How We Protect Your Inbox

Every message submitted through ToTheBand is reviewed before it reaches you. If it doesn't meet the standard, it doesn't get through. Simple as that.

Your letters arrive in your ToTheBand dashboard inbox. You'll receive an email notification when something new is waiting — log in to read it when you're ready. No new workflow. No noise.

✓Every message is reviewed before delivery — no exceptions

✓Genuine messages only— anything that doesn't meet the standard is declined

✓Delivered within 24 hours— appears in your ToTheBand dashboard inbox. You'll receive an email notification when it arrives.

✓No reply required — fans are told upfront. Read when you want. Respond if you choose to.

✓Senders are blocked for any serious or repeated violation — they cannot resubmit

Our promise to bands

If a message reaches your inbox, it was written by a real fan and considered worth your time. That is the only standard we operate to.

What Happens When Rules Are Broken

Level 01

Message Declined

The message is not delivered. The fan receives a notification that their message did not meet ToTheBand's guidelines, with a brief explanation. No further action unless the behaviour continues.

Level 02

Sender Blocked

Repeated violations or a single serious breach results in the sender being permanently blocked from the platform. Their email address cannot be used to submit further messages.

Level 03

Reported

Messages containing credible threats or potentially illegal content are reported to the relevant authorities. ToTheBand cooperates fully with any investigation. The band is informed if relevant.

If you are a band and have a concern about a message you received, or if you are a fan and believe your message was declined unfairly, contact us directly. Every report is read and responded to personally.
